"Successful change may rely on breaking away from the community formed on the street. But change is hard without social support."

It is hard for people to break away from a community they have survived on the streets with, especially when family-breakdowns are a past scar. If a person does not leave peers that exhibit behavior they are trying to get away from, it could jeopardize that person's chances of maintaining housing, sobriety, and even health. It is easy to relapse without new and encouraging relationships.
